About ACT!

As well as the ability to defend oneself physically a major part of self defense involves intuition, awareness, knowledge and understanding.

The ACT! Women's Defense Program builds both Physical and Psychological components to create a comprehensive personalised self-defense experience for every participant.

Self defense is more than just Physical Skills. The ACT! Defense program also includes a strong Mental Skills component. These two aspects, combined, create a powerful learning experience. Many existing self-defense courses fail to include a mental skills component and this is where ACT! Defense sets itself apart from the others.

Why are mental skills important for self-defense?

Defending oneself from a dangerous situation requires more than strength and speed alone – physical skills are important but so is your awareness of potentially dangerous situations, sharp decision-making abilities, and the strength of your actions to defend your personal safety.

ACT! challenges you to think about what your boundaries are, looks at your level of assertiveness, and examines the fight-or-flight response that governs our actions when faced with a threat.

ACT! courses also provides current Australian statistics on essential topics such as who is most likely to attack and what an attacker looks for in a target, and related topics such as sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

These essential components combine to produce an educational, empowering, and up-to-date self-defense experience. In each session, we generate interactive discussions that bring into perspective both the bigger picture of self defense and the finer points, harnessing knowledge and intuition. These discussions allow the participant to personalise and define their own values, goals and boundaries and, in doing so, build a strong foundation of understanding.
